Company Evolution

INSPIRING - PARTNERING - DELIVERING

ICL Construction has a proud history within the Taranaki region, it commenced its roots as Inglewood Concrete Works back in the early 1980's. The founding directors later changed the company into Inglewood Concrete 1993 Ltd upon the appointment of additional directors. From the 80's and through into the 90's , the company evolved rapidly to reflect the true nature of the business from it's original discipline as a Concrete Contractor and Precaster to a Main Contractor after many years operating in this domain.

The Mid 90's saw the company being engaged as the preferred concrete contractors on many large concrete building and civil construction projects,  from the 300KVA power tower pylon bases between Eltham and Opunake, The SH3 Egmont Village pedestrian underpass, through to the construction of the orignal Govett Brewster Art Gallery ( pictured adjacent and below ) and further to the construction of large format buildings such as the Harvey Norman in Waiwhakaiho, New Plymouth.

Early 00's saw the development of the company into a head building contractor cementing it's position as one of the specialist large construction firms in Taranaki. Partnering with local Architects, Engineers and Clients, Inglewood Concrete evolved in to ICL Construction Ltd in 2004. This name shift bought about a new era in the life of the business, two new directors and a shift in to all types of construction works, including residential, commerical, education and more. ICL relocated their offices to Hurlstone drive behind the current Allied Concrete plant.

ICL grew rapidly, grounding it'self as the preferred contractor for design & build concrete warehouses and the like. Together with the on field staff the office staff grew also.

Between 2007 and 2009 saw the relocation of the business to it's current premises in Rifle Range Road, Waiwhakaiho in order to accommodate the rapidly growing business assett and precast demand base, however ceasing construction of pre-stressed concrete.

2012 saw the retirement of one of the last founding fathers of inglewood concrete, whilst still a director until it's latter sale in 2016, the business was stagnant, trading as needed through to the it's sale in 2016.

The current owners Cole and Sammy-Jo Wenmoth purchased the business, assetts, plant, buildings and land from its previous owners in march of 2016. Cole was originally employed as a Quantity Surveyor in 2010 through to 2016. Cole continues to act in the capacity of Managing Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor. Sammy-Jo continues to act in capacity as the businesses Financial Director.

In 2016 the business re-established it's history in pre-stressed concrete construction with the construction of a brand new state-of-the-art universally adaptable pre-stressing facility at it's base in Waiwhakaiho.

Over the past 5 years the comapny has grown from it's staple 25 men field crew and 4 man office crew to a combined crew of more than 50 staff.

In April 2019 ICL Construction diversified forming separate divisions in the ICL Group, forming, ICL Construction, ICL Precast, ICL Residential, ICL Develop and ICL Civil.

ICL's sister company ICL Assets acquired Turnkey Civil ( previously Civilscape ) and that business is now incorporated into the wider ICL Construction group of divisions as ICL Civil, this provides ICL with strong expertise in the civils sectors for both our own projects and for external clients.

April 2020 has brought about company changes with Dave Corney being appointed as shareholder and Construction Director. Dave is a highly experienced construction professional and former owner and director of a very successful construction business based in Whanganui.

The current ICL team has evolved significantly over the past couple of years with the directors installing a General Manager in 2019 and in turn (in 2020) an entirely new Management Team. The ICL Management team now has strong, solid experience and discipline across Governance, Operations, Business Development, Marketing, Logistics, Property Development, Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Health and Safety, Human Resources, and Compliance.

While ICL Construction remains based in New Plymouth, it operates it's precast installation division across the North Island of New Zealand as a sub-contractor together with select projects as Main Contractor or partnering with our strategic alliances  we have within the industry.

ICL's plans for the future are looking good, with further development of the ICL Group over the coming 24 months.
