ICL Construction were engaged under a Design and Build contract with ECI with the client and architect. Among our achievements were value engineering cost savings of 38% against the construction budget and reducing the construction programme from 14 Months to 12 Months. The shorter build was advantageous not only to the client, but to the Taranaki community. It reduced the period of building-related health, safety and security risks for New Plymouth industrial area where the project was located, as well as for our own workers and subcontractors. These risks significantly influenced our methodology, as building work took place 30 metres away from a ‘live’ railway line.
