Philip King

A Senior Project Manager, Philip has extensive experience in early contractor involvement and design and build contracts where his skills and knowledge in buildable design and lean programming add huge value.

Philip holds a number of qualifications as well as being one of only two personal in Taranaki whom hold their Level 3 LBP Site Licence.

For example, as Project Manager (client side) for the local $60 million Summerset Retirement Village project, his leadership was instrumental in achieving the Summerset Group’s fastest-ever village build in New Zealand.

Original expectations were for the construction programme to span up to five years. Philip and his team achieved it in less than four years - meaning the client’s staff and residents could use the facilities six to 12 months earlier than scheduled.

One of the ways this was achieved was through applying over 20 years’ knowledge of regional conditions to reconfigure the conventional programme of works. He anticipated the potential hazards and delays of working on soft, wet Taranaki ash / clay soils over winter, and brought forward the construction of building platforms for the villas. This meant that when the wet season arrived, the site was ready for a switch of construction focus from earthworks, roading and civils to work on villa buildings.

Philip joined our team in early 2018, and quickly developed productive, collaborative relationships with our clients, consultants, staff, subcontractors and suppliers.

His construction industry career began with a carpentry apprenticeship 40 years ago, and his talents were obvious from the start. He managed construction projects while still an apprentice, and progressed to be involved in some of the larger construction projects in Palmerston North and Taranaki.

Roles over the past 25 years have included site manager, contracts manager and project manager. His projects experience covers residential, commercial and civil projects (including bridges and structures) pharmaceutical plants, healthcare, multi-storey commercial, petrochemical, retail developments, infrastructure, entertainment and educational projects
